Here are some that I have found particularly helpful. Omission doesn't indicate a poor response - I haven't trawled the country!

Pinewood music -- Brian has travelled from Somerset to London twice at my behest and is a gentleman. Has also suggested what not to buy (which he sells) so an honest chap.

Audioconsultants -- Another high end dealer who also travels, Stephen is a very hardworking individual, passionate about the stuff he sells. Doesn't like timewasters (nothing wrong with that)

Radlett -- Run by David Wren, who works from home now. Healthily cynical chap . Used to have a popular shop in St. Albans

Walrus -- Central London alladins cave. Demos at home no problem. Congestion charge a bummer. Likes valves and vinyl.

Midland Audio Exchange -- Using a converted chapel near Kidderminster, has an eyewatering amount of high end gear in a no pressure environment. Good coffee too.

Stereonow -- Howard Popeck's latest reincarnation. Pleasant, respected fellow. Knows a lot and won't rip you off. If your happy - he's happy. Good blog too.

unfortunately, having existed for only 4 hours before being deleted that post is gone

Had it lasted for a day or so, i would most likely have had it in my daily backups and could have at least posted the content so you could have copied and pasted it into a new post.

Anyway, sorry about that doodoos and Doc... what happened Doc? Do you know? I can only imaging you selected the wrong option without realising... if you definitely did not, then please let me know exactly what you did do, and i'll do some testing.

Cheers!

Doodoos,
I'm an idiot.
In the process of moving your post about positive retail experiences to the correct thread it was somehow deleted, or at least moved to somewhere where I can't find it.
I'll PM Fishy to see if he can retrieve it.
Many many your apologies. It was a useful post that you clearly put time into.

Hello everybody :o)

I have what is i hope a nice easy but interesting topic for yourelves.

I am looking to tri amp my new Monitor BR5 speakers.
The plan is to use the Rotel amp i got with them (cant remember which exactly, about 35 Watts per channel i think) as a
pre amp - active crossover - 3 Valve amps per speaker - speakers.

I want to get valve amps in as i have sound tested them at my local hi-fi shop and they sound lush.

I am however struggling to find appropriate mono power amps to use. Please could you recommend me some :o)
Only really need to be 20 - 50 Watts, but decent quality. Also, as was the name of the game with the BR5 - Rotel combo... Value is a key requirement!

Also, any comments or advice regarding tri-amping my speakers, please get stuck in!! :o)

Many thanks in advance,
Liam

Think i stuck this in the wrong section!!

**Thanks for that. But yes it would be more useful to have it in the appropriate thread. I'll try to get on to it.**

Purely personal experiences on helpful dealers I have used, in no particular order.

Pinewood - high end gear. Brian has travelled from Somerset to London twice for me, and would happily do so again. Has suggested items he sells that I shouldn't be buying, which is a great money saver.

Walrus - central London. Alladins cave. Sound advice, good range. Bought speakers there in the past. Congestion charge a bummer for collecting demo equipment.

Radlett audio -- Dave Wren a knowledgeable chap, down to earth and no bull. Now demos from home I believe.

Audioconsultants-- more high end gear. Good range of equipment. Stephen is a very hardworking, helpful guy who travels to do demos. Not appreciative of timewasters, but who is?

Midland Audio Exchange - A vast array of top quality gear housed in a converted chapel near Kidderminster. You are given all the time you need, all day if required in a totally non pressured way. Great coffee too.

Stereonow - Howard Popeck's current trade name. Very knowledgeable fellow, refreshingly cynical. Interesting blog.

Collected the rest of it from my mate's Dad last night and now have it set up, and I love it! Which means I finally have some model numbers for you. The speakers are Eltax Silverstone 110s, the Amp is a Technics A700, the CD player is a Marantz CD65 Special Edition, the tuner is a Technics ST-4L, plus I have an old Rotel RD600 tape deck (which I already had). The CD player has an optical coax input, so can I use this in the same way as a fibre optic lead to a minidisc player?
