Between 10:18 and 19:04 on 6 October, HiFiForum was intermittently offline and unavailable.
The root cause of this outage was a misbehaving network switch/VLAN in the data center that houses hififorum, which was sending lots of false connections to the database server which then banned that IP address! The IP address it banned happened to be the IP address of the web server, and that's why we kept seeing these outages.
HiFiForum.co.uk management apologies for the outage, and we hope no inconvenience was caused.
If you have any questions or comments regarding this outage, or would like to see more information, please discuss the outage in this forum topic: http://www.hififorum.co.uk/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=626

Between 9 August 2006 @ 09:50 and 11 August 2006 @ sometime, HiFiForum was offline and unavailable.
The root cause of this outage was a concatenation of several occurences. First of all, the server got hacked, and all index files were replaced with a web page written in arabic, with an embedded RealPlayer sound file which sounded like some kind of arabic song/chant! Then the server had to be re-installed from scratch, which took several hours. Then the web sites had to be restored from the most recent backup (which i believe was 1 day old), and then, even when everything had been restored, nothing worked properly, so i have now copied the entire web site onto a new web cluster!
As far as you, the user, is concerned, however, nothing should have changed since the outage

Between 00:42 and 00:50 GMT and between 01:22 and 01:30 GMT, HiFiForum was offline and unavailable.
The root cause of this outage was some software running in another user's account on the same server, and the ISP is dealing with the guilty user accordingly.
